Hair loss knows no gender

Concern about hair loss is on the rise. The data indicate that Spaniards are starting to lose their hair at an increasingly younger age. But why does our hair fall out, and is there any remedy to stop it?

Unmistakable signs of hair loss

Hair loss affects both women and men, and hair loss is considered normal when you lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day. Obviously, it is almost impossible to keep track, but there are certain signs that can indicate when we should take action. Among the main ones are: waking up with lots of hair on your pillow, observing how the hair at the nape of your neck, crown and receding hairline loses thickness and when you tug on it, it falls out and, lastly, when you brush your hair and a large number of hairs get caught between the teeth of the comb.

Possible causes of hair loss

Once the loss has been detected, we must know the reasons for it. In addition to genetic issues, there are other factors that can cause hair loss. Among the most common are stress, caused by a hectic life with numerous responsibilities that cause us to lack hours in the day. To this cosmopolitan life we can add another type of alopecia such as that caused by updos, but not just any hairstyle but those that keep the hair bulb under continuous tension. That is to say, ponytails with a lifting effect, badly placed extensions or any other up-do that keeps the root of the hair in a continuous stretching.

To this list of causes we can also add, in the case of women, hair loss caused by hormones. There are critical moments in a woman's life when it comes to hair loss, such as postpartum and menopause. On the positive side, postpartum hair loss usually stops after three to six months and normally disappears on its own, although there are cases in which it is better to undergo treatment to slow it down. In the case of menopause, this process cannot be reversed, but treatments can be carried out to slow it down and mitigate the consequences.
